Executive Director Miyoko Pettit-Toledo and Staff Attorney Malia Alexander presented via Zoom to students, faculty and staff at the Myron B. Thompson School of Social Work at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Their Spring 2021 Social Work Brown Bag Presentation was titled “The Silver Tsunami: Legal and Social Work Approaches to Caring for an Aging Population” and referenced pop cultural examples of conservatorships and legal issues, such as the #FreeBritney movement, the Abigail Kawananakoa case, and the new Netflix movie, “I Care A Lot.” Miyoko and Malia also announced field practicum opportunities for students entering their second year Master’s in Social Work programs with a declared specialization in Gerontology or Health, including a generous scholarship for student interns placed at MaxCorp.
